The Tacho output wire is hijacked for aftermarket tachometers and to provide an RPM source for various hardware. The wire is black with a red "ring" around it every 50mm or so. A photograph can be seen below, this is the wire that can be used as an RPM feed for a Megasquirt in fuel-only mode, but you will require a 470ohm resistor (or there abouts) in order for the dash tacho to still work.
